The map puzzle is geography learned by hand: the states or provinces of a country come to you one by one and you drag each onto its place on the map. Drop one in the wrong place and you learn that place's name; after two mistakes the right spot blinks. 80 countries are included: the US states, Germany's Länder, France's regions and departments, Japan's prefectures, Türkiye's 81 provinces… Every piece carries the name used in its own country: Bayern, Hauts-de-France, Texas. There is no timer and no race; a child plays at their own pace, as often as they like.
How is the map puzzle played?
- Pick a country. Countries are grouped by continent and can be searched by name.
- Pick a level: Regions (the 4 US regions, France's 13 regions) is easy, Provinces / states (the 49 contiguous US states, Germany's 16 Länder) is hard.
- Pick a game. Place: the piece comes to your hand, you drag it to its empty slot and it snaps when you are close. Find: the game names a place and you tap it on the map.
- A wrong drop shows a note such as "This is Ohio"; after two mistakes the right spot blinks, after three the game places it and shows you. The "I don't know" button gives the same help.
- When the map is complete you see your stars, time and mistakes, with applause and confetti. The best result is kept on this device and shown as stars in the country list.
Levels and game types
- Regions: A few large pieces: the 4 US regions, France's 13 regions, Italy's 20 regions, Türkiye's 7 geographic regions. The starting point for ages 6-8.
- Provinces / states: All administrative units of the country: 49 US states (Alaska and Hawaii excluded), 16 German Länder, 47 Japanese prefectures, 81 Turkish provinces. For small pieces, dropping nearby is enough.
- Place: The classic puzzle: the piece is in your hand, find its place. Its shape is a clue too; large pieces come first so the map fills like a frame.
- Find: The reverse puzzle: all pieces are in place, the game names one and you tap it. Best for memorising, like a revision before a test.

Frequently asked questions
What is the easiest way to learn the US states?
Go from region to state: place the 4 regions first, then the states of each region. In the puzzle the large states (Texas, California, Montana) come first, so the map frames quickly and the small ones are found by their neighbours. After a few rounds, test yourself in Find mode.
Why are the piece names not translated?
Every piece carries the name used in its own country: Bayern rather than Bavaria, Małopolskie rather than Lesser Poland. The child learns the real name they will meet on maps, in the news and when travelling. Country names are shown in the site language.
Is the game free, do I need an account?
Yes, completely free; no account or name is needed. Progress (stars per country) is stored only on this device.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Pieces are dragged with a finger and float slightly above it so they stay visible. Tapping works too: tap the piece, then tap its spot on the map.
Where does the map data come from?
Borders come from Natural Earth's public-domain 1:10 million dataset, simplified and arranged for a child's screen. Crimea and Sevastopol appear on the map of Ukraine.
🚀 Start now: pick a country above, warm up with Regions, then move on to the full set.
